Music in the Mill with Trad Group 'Dé Máirt'

Date of event: Tuesday 20 August at 8 pm.

You need a ticket for this event.

The Event

Dé Máirt was formed over ten years ago by a small group of three tin whistle players seeking an outlet for adult learners of Irish traditional music. They were soon joined by other Trad enthusiasts playing a variety of instruments and giving the group a mix of talent for both instrumental music and the singing of Irish songs.

The group meet in Roscrea on Tuesdays in Carol Thompson’s house and their members come from the immediate Roscrea area and also from further afield including the Banagher, Rathdowney and Templemore areas. They enjoy their music immensely but do not forget the lighter social side of things when they get together on Tuesday nights.

All proceeds from the night will be donated to Roscrea Hospice.

Location

This event will take place in the stunning setting of the Black Mills (E53 AH50). The Black Mills dates from the first half of the 18th century and is located near the 11th century Round Tower and the 12th century Romanesque church. The Black Mills and the surrounding land has been in state care since 1991. When the property came into state care, it was clear that there was an extreme amount of work required if it was to be restored and made accessible to the general public. The acquisition of the property was also seen as an ideal opportunity to protect St Cronan's Cross and to provide interpretive material on the monastic settlement which was located in this part of Roscrea. St Cronan's cross which was located in the church grounds nearby was relocated to the mill to fully protect it for future generations.

As places are limited, tickets (free of charge) must be booked in advance. Roscrea Heritage Society looks forward to welcoming you on the day. Bígí Linn!
